Roman Shemakov

Roman’s life work focuses on the intersection of jurisprudence, planetary-scale computation, and urban geotechnology. A high honors graduate in Economics and History from Swarthmore College, USA, he spent a year in Taipei as a Henry Luce Scholar. Subsequently, he worked on a grant from the Harvard-Yenching Center, Carnegie, Ford, and Rockefeller Foundations investigating urban management platforms at Zhejiang University, China. He has conducted research at the Strelka Institute, Arcosanti, and Earthship Biotecture. In 2021, Roman coauthored The Digital Transformation of Property in Greater China (World Scientific). He is currently covering the war in Ukraine for Global Voices and is pursuing a Masters in Law at the Yenching Academy of Peking, China.
